Overview

If you have a Novell-based network account at W&L, you can use one of several methods to access your network files from off-campus (see how do I know whether I'm using Novell?). Three methods using Windows are described below; use this method if you're using a Macintosh.

  Novell client

The simplest method involves the use of the Novell client, familiar to on-campus W&L computer users. This requires installation of the Novell client software, and works best on a high-speed connection. The Novell client looks like this, and is available from the HelpDesk:

  iStorage

The iStorage method is accessed from a Web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, and does not require any special software. The method can be used with either a dial-up or high-speed connection:

  NetDrive

NetDrive uses a piece of locally installed software to map a drive in Windows to your network files. NetDrive allows you to directly access the files on your "H" and "L" drives, for example, using familiar tools such as Windows Explorer or My Computer. You can open and save network files directly from an application such as Microsoft Word. NetDrive works best with a high speed connection.
